Tehran, August 6, 2024 – According to Mehr’s correspondent, documentary filmmaker Hadi Shariati, known for his work in sports films, shared his insights on the documentary “Sattar El Classico.” Shariati highlighted the unique characteristics of sports and their cinematic appeal, emphasizing the adrenaline rush and climactic moments that captivate audiences. Using football as an example, he noted how the beautiful movements and excitement of scoring goals contribute to the film’s success.

Shariati explained that the key to a successful documentary lies in creating this excitement. He experienced this first hand while working on “Sattar El Classico.” He stressed that the appeal of sports films, regardless of the sport, is rooted in the excitement they generate. This excitement is palpable in many sports games, where dramatic turnarounds from defeat to victory create naturally attractive narratives. Capturing these dramatic moments accurately and originally is essential for a sports film’s success.

Director At Oglu also praised the sports personality Sattar Maharani, the main character in “Sattar El Classico.” Inspired by a short video of Maharani’s training session, At Oglu reviewed the inaugural season of “Sattar El Classico,” highlighting the special attraction from the moment the horses enter the field and the dramatic events that unfold.

Shariati also discussed his current projects, including research on Ali Naderi, the national beach soccer team coach. He expressed his desire to make a film about Naderi, whom he has known since childhood, in collaboration with the Documentary & Experimental Film Center.

Shariati noted that while sports films have the potential to be very attractive, many recent football films have failed to synchronize the dramatic timing of the sport with the film’s narrative. He expressed hope that the genre will continue to progress, leading to better sports movies.
